We made lemon volcanoes today! This was part of our Science/Change unit.
First we cut the top off a lemon, then we made it go all mushy to free up the juice. Next we added some dishwashing liquid and some food colouring for effect. Then we put a spoonful of baking soda into the lemon and watched!
Bubbles started to form and they came up and over the side of the lemon. It was really cool.
The acid from the lemon juice is reacting with the baking soda and forming carbon dioxide. This is where the bubbles come from.
